the loss of chinese culture
between choy and his mates
but first, some prior knowledge
about this memoir
like how wayson’s grandfather
had to travel afar

grandpa lived on the island
he was a strong- willed man
had to leave hometown china
for better life on new land

his dad on cpr ships
worked as a chef
always away from home
keeping his family from debt

his grandma, yune-shee
though thirteen years younger

that drove the family apart
his parents moved to vancouver
for a fresh new start

and then wayson was born
to carry on choy legacy
instead lost his culture
which was quite the tragedy

was doubted by his parents
if he’d ever be chinese

after all, pets were better fed

to teach choy of his heritage

strict and stern rules
about his typical manners
