that's a wrap - studrique lyrics

[verse: studrique]
speech of four years of high school was the topic
that the staff in the office offered me in hindsight
i thought about writing it, making it flawless
but i’m much honest when i rap with a concept
cl-ssmates in the baptism process
stage is like a church fingers cross like crosses
now we’re off to college, before we progress
i have a couple stories i would like to address
freshman year i started off at burbank in the summer
never thought that i’d be an x-c runner
six days a week sounds like a bummer
but running turned out to be my bread and b-tter
six days turned to seven as a soph0m-re
i wanted to explore parks and sh0r-s
i took a break from the stage floor
play pro on hold to settle scores
5k scores, running races
felt incomplete when i laced my asics
was a dumb kid brain was basic
til i found the confidence to join my matey’s
in ap’s, joined aof
three years straight yeah i’ll never forget
saw the world from eyes much richer than mine
started saving dimes into funds and fines
focused on life and things that matter
made me reflect on the things that shattered
the friends, the times, myself, my ex
roaming thru the halls but i still felt regret
had to come to terms with someone that i left
behind in the cold ironic enough
my soul is the only thing that froze up
i had a lot of doors i had to close up
see i was living, doing things in vain
isolated based on old mistakes
tryn’a find my place then one day
i talked with my ex and everything changed
i figured the way to succeed in what i do
is knowing she can make it on her own not in two
i put her thru a lot, right then i knew
closure, terms with the past came true
she accepted the friend request that pended
pleasant knowing we were stable separate
from that point on i stopped being desperate
eyes on the future staying independent
coach marked me cross country captain
i remember when it happened
he knew that i could handle it
he knew that i was capable of running long distance
consistent he knew i was persistent
went from chasing misses to missing buses
moved to pacoima last year strutting
dad bought a house no c-ckroaches
“you made it to varsity” yelled the coaches
i ran with a squad, seniors, juniors
team of guys who worked for the future
chance to go to state sooner than later
uphill battle, everyday labor
we didn’t make it to the majors or state
we did however have a plan b for plan a
we caught a plane up north to the place
where the high school champs played for a trophy
wasn’t fate, no it wasn’t planned
running nationals was something grand
no i didn’t win but i didn’t come last
had a lot of laughs with the team running laps
running fast then we flew back home
made it to the school zone feeling grown
ap’s honors business ethics
worked hard athletic academic
not the strongest but i did commit
not the smartest but i had a lot of wit
known as an enigma loud and quiet
i kept to myself few friends around me
senior year on senior hill
i joined a crew named comedy guild
it was the closest thing i had to acting
then the play pro teacher asked if i had the p-ssion
if i had the drive to play in plays
with kids on stage act for days
schedule aligned with cross country
yea i’m skinny but i played rocky
something wasn’t right doubts in my mind
i was uptight everyday every night
acting with might i was running out of spite
running when the team had internal fights
things fell apart, my teammates knew
there wasn’t much i could say or do
to -ssuage the problems we went thru
tripping when i had to focus on school
stressing over things that didn’t affect me
i let thee offend me feed me envy
i let thee distract me from my mission of college
thank god there was still enough time to progress
making calls, i was trying to evolve
going to monroe, i was acting in the halls
gpa sat up to par
room full of plaques medals on the wall
bought a binder for my résumé
stacked to the brim with rewards acclaimed
that’s my name on the cover page
the same work-o-holic, nothing’s change
now it’s may, earlier this month
i made a tape with my back on the front
now everyone knows the things i’ve done
yea my upbringing was tons of fun
and here i stand, off to csun for something greater, for a major
taking risks i don’t worry bout the dangers
i’d rather take the chance then worry bout it later
i’ve learned a lot from the things that i’ve experienced
from being oblivious to taking things serious
from fishing for compliments to reaching accomplishments
i met my goals thru systems not promises
i lost friends but i found myself
hope you relate i hope this helps
went from running and acting to writing and rapping
in four years i made it happen
this is where it happened

that’s a wrap
