awakening part ii: the calling - steignyr lyrics

9. awakening part ii: the calling (feat willem dafoe and russell crowe)
thanks to the skald’s efforts, people around the world start to realize they are being manipulated. one of their “puppets” is and old friend of the pilgrim. he tries to reason with him before the angry mob raids his house. unfortunately, the count is so corrupted by the niflithar he won’t give his power up. but a curious maiden will listen to every word

[the maiden]:
an errant skald was singing
about how myths hide lots of truth
i don’t know if it’s right
and i can’t get it off my mind
some people misbehaving
chanting words like “truth” and “rights”
they started ‘cause of the song
like it snapped something inside

what if they tell no lies?
what if there’s something really fishy
happening behind our backs
treating us like some stock for k!lling
the master’s getting annoyed
is he part of this complot?
he hasn’t said a word
i wonder what’s going on…

[prechorus]:
[angry mob]:
liars! traitors! trying to control
dividing our kind, making us fight between us!
sinners! slayers! k!lling us for greed!
we have earned our bread ‘cause you put a price on it!
butchers! monsters! enough with your lies!
now it all makes sense, we will die before going blind!
liars! slayers! trying to control! (dividing our kind!)
[chorus]:
something’s changing
through a grasp, a dim of light
this collapse will define
the next step of our kind
blindfolds falling overall
open minds, the insane were right
this collapse will define
the next step of our kind

[the maiden]:
he made the guards charge but n0body stopped
the sky cracks and rain begins to fall
i hear someone approaching the master…

[the count]:
“how come you are wasting your time on these foolish ideals? can’t you see the world is just a rat race? the only way to win is to climb to the top! be the best, be the one that conquers it!”

[the pilgrim]:
“you speak of climbing, my friend, but you only cling to dirt and dust. you chase after fleeting riches and power, but in time, they will only bring you misery. true wealth is found in the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom, not in silver or gold. those will never satisfy your greed.”

[the count]:
“words are as empty as politicians’ promises! it’s better to stick with what really works in the real world, not in your fibber mind’s one: money, success, influence. you get nothing without it.”

[the pilgrim]:
“you are a tree that seeks to grow taller while neglecting its roots. yes, you may soar above the others, your branches may extend their leaves to the sky, but they will grow weak and slim. you will never be truly stable or fulfilled if you don’t grasp what the land can give you. what the world can really give you. i chose to deepen my roots once and bear the fruit of true understanding. believe me, friend, it’s not mere words. if a tree can’t give fruits or flowers, no seeds will be given either. ”
[the count]:
“ahh, keep your fruit and seeds, old man! diamonds and gold are more valuable. and useful.”

[the pilgrim]:
“diamonds may shine and gold may sparkle, but they will not illuminate your path to true happiness. or peace.”

[the count]:
“this! is happiness! peace equals to getting everything i need and want. i’m sticking with what works, which are power and control. i don’t need a lighty*invisible path to happiness, it’s right here with me, sitting on my throne, while you’re left in the shadows of your poor philosophy. my true wealth is not measured in gold or silver, fool, but in the souls of those who bow to me. they can get me anything precious stones can’t buy. what can your “enlightening” do against that?”

[the pilgrim]:
“you can keep your illusions of grandeur and power, for they will only lead to your downfall. all that is “material” can be lost and never recovered. the unmaterial always stays with you. the true path to salvation lies in embracing the unknown and rising above the clouds and stars. come with me, climb that mountain and you will see. i’m not held back by the strings of tradition and societal norms now. i will break free from the shackles of the past and pave a new way forward, i can feel it already, and it’s nothing i have ever known before. if you try, it will do good to you, my friend. a new way to be, a new way to live. a new way to see.”

[the count]:
“your “new way” sounds like a pipe dream to me. the strong will always rule over the weak, it’s the natural order of things.”

[the pilgrim]:
“but true strength is not found in dominating others. that is what you were taught, but the truth goes further than that. victory is fleeting, riches are ephemeral. you look for peace, but you prefer to stay where you are? success, as you may call it, is found in the journey and the person you become along the way. the chains of your ignorance and your fear keep you back. but i won’t let that happen anymore, my friend. you choose to stay. i choose to strive for true understanding and enlightenment. while you rejoice in these riches, at the end you will still fear the loss of it. but not me. i will be the beacon of hope for a brighter future. and i will not be stopped.”

ravens, ravens… fjolnir’s messengers
i knew this man before. father was right
if we met in older lives… we always reunite

liars! traitors! butchers!
sinners! slayers! monsters! (we’re never going back to blind!)

there’s an ancient bow and arrow
father told me grandma was very proud of
there’s a silent voice commanding, to take the visitor and show them to him
this connection i can’t tell
he says comes from an ancient life
everything aligns
i must leave with him
goodbye master!
stay blind if you will!
[prechorus]

[chorus]

liars! traitors! butchers! (we’re never going back to blind!)
sinners! slayers! monsters! (we deserve happiness too!)

sinners! butchers! slayers! monsters!
liars! traitors! monsters!
enough with your lies!
