hourglass - replicator (of futurology) lyrics
(what happens when life breaks down?)
[verse 1]
i can tell you that it’s never as dramatic as it seems
not what it’s made out to be on a screen
it’s a gradual process and every moment is excruciating
pacing through sensations and waiting on amazement
to appear externally, but unfortunately, there is no remedy to be found in your memory
i’ve had some pretty harsh realities set in before i could come to understand this lesson
that life can be a blessing and also a b-tch
it turns out these qualities aren’t mutually exclusive
life is a pretty comprehensive experience
and so it’s no wonder we often end up [?] it
we’re complex beings with different levels of understanding
and too often we’re comparative with each other’s anguish
but i truly believe what lies underneath all the anger and deceit is a deep yearning to live in peace
[verse 2]
violence is a process, not an act
a movement of energy that can either be p-ssed
or be stopped in its tracks by refusing to partic-p-te
precipitate a change in how we communicate
with each other, when you look a bit further
you’ll soon discover the common theme that runs underneath
we’re genetically programmed to operate on scarcity
but our world today couldn’t be more different from our history
neo-darwinist preaching survival of the fittest
while ignoring the symbiosis of an entire existence
the illusion of separation is a great justification
to say f-ck everyone else and work only for self-enrichment
we acknowledge the distance but not the similarities
focus on divisions and say we’ll get it eventually
our values are distorted ‘cause we have so much in common
but we drown it out in the fear of being forgotten
it resonates deep, with our evolution
to seek a quick solution and engineer an improvement
but that would mean we’re putting our faith in a mutation
to change our situation but it’s aimless
[?] only cares about its own replication
does that sound familiar? are you getting impatient?
growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of a cancer cell
[verse 3]
i feel like we’re running out of time
the hourgl-ss slowly sifting through the grains where we remain blind to the problem
so for what it’s worth i try and paint a picture
of a world in danger and humanity is its savior
but our behavior only appears to get worse
man, i don’t wanna watch the world burn, it hurts
i wanna do something more than pay lip service to peace
we need to live and breathe what we believe
‘cause there’s blood on our hands and we can’t just rinse it off
the stains are deeply ingrained in how society works
so we can talk all we want, but words aren’t worth much
the only people who can implement its change are us
we are alone in this universe as far as we can tell
so it’s in our hands to create heaven or h-ll
we’ve such beautiful dreams but offer nightmares
and rather than coexist, we don’t even fight fair
the possibilities are infinite, both good and bad
we can claw it back or destroy everything in our path
the pale blue dot suspended in a light beam
the only home we’ve ever known, the only place we’ve ever been
the aggregate of our joy, suffering and indifference
this infinite soliloquy sits in a cosmic [?]
awkwardly spinning, as fragile as a child’s mind
taken for granted by the cruelty of our kind
i hope it’s not too late to save this beautiful place
and then finally then inhabit us this human race
