a teenage poem - paul & the microcosm lyrics
a shadow blocking the sun
in a wide, never*ending hall
with squeaky sneakers and an odor of smoke
he walks down it with no other purpose
but to impress, to live in excess
and to possess the minds of the ones
that for some inexplicable reason
still don’t know of the greatness that he has to offer
so for a tiny split second in time
they look up from their silver screens
and with all their attention
and all his prior successions
his ego grows more and more
and all we can do is observе and wonder
what is it that makes him desirablе?
is it real, his charm and his plastic laugh?
is it true that his father drives expensive cars?
what do his hundreds of friends do when he’s not around?
what’s with all his romances that didn’t work out?
questions that, if asked
are only answered by anger
we can only sit there and accept it
have a meaningless conversation and remain in fear
as l and all the mere ghosts in this scene
disappear
