nine ra— music

there’s one special woman in my life who means more to me than anyone of flesh and blood. and that is the sounds that’s coming out of your speaker right now. my love…

devoted soul, this my all. everything i give you
love too strong, you’re my call. destiny is with you
powerful bond, unbreakable. life i’m spending with you
i am you, you are me, ’til the ending with you

you are me, i am you, nothing can replace you
no payment nor money ever can erase you
you’re my soul therapy, wealth cannot deface you
you’re my love, to other women i cannot remain true
you are me, i am you, nothing can replace you
no payment nor money ever can erase you
you’re my soul therapy, wealth cannot deface you
you’re my love, to other women i cannot remain true

always had a knack for the written word. a’s in english when the other students didn’t learn
see i hated doing worksheets, but i loved writing papers, them my favorite grade that i get and earn
cuz i feel like i ain’t got to spew back all this memorized cr-p, that don’t mean nothing anyway
critically think instead of fill in a blank -ssignment, true self shining gleams up in any day
seemed so irrelevant ‘til i became more eloquent, started to learn how to express the pain of the h-ll i’m in
started poetry at nine years old. i’d become nine ra one day, couldn’t even tell ‘em then
my poems were simple at first, i’d write ‘til my palms and temples would hurt
show them to moms she went to encourage, give her credit she got me into it first
i remember the first time i was ever creative with the written word, guess that it left a mark
momma transcribed a story about when she took me to the aquarium to see the sharks
i remember in kindergarten they had a pep rally loud speakers hype kids were free to roam
i ain’t understand the point, or why it was considered fun, so i called my mom she could bring me home
fast forward nine years to ninth grade. music was never a p-ssion of mine
-ssociate it with the action and time of cleaning the house i would rationalize
it was nothing more than background noise. up until 14 in my life i never had a favorite song
music was stupid it didn’t even faze me at all. i would never dance, never try to sing along

you are me, i am you, nothing can replace you
no payment nor money ever can erase you
you’re my soul therapy, wealth cannot deface you
you’re my love, to other women i cannot remain true
you are me, i am you, nothing can replace you
no payment nor money ever can erase you
you’re my soul therapy, wealth cannot deface you
you’re my love, to other women i cannot remain true

my father would b-mp nothing but dr. dre, west coast snoop dogg, 2pac, and nate
it was the same uninspiring thing over and over, pot to bake, money, women to copulate
not a single thing creative that i saw to innovate, just talk about cars and the broads to penetrate
but my conception of hip hop would all disintegrate, the breath of knowledge inside me allowed to intubate
when i turned fourteen and my homie chris jewell put my on to a jewel, then i listened it’s cool
some freestyle by the rapper papoose, he repeating re-reciting lyrics ’til it gets through
i was looking dumb at first, listened deeper to the words, when he got loud i started making them sounds too
for the first time, i understand the concept of a punchline, then i seen round two
right in front my school, this senior frankie battling another rapper. screaming he spit the fluid
his face red, anger at the top of his lungs, i went home on the school bus dreaming that i could do it
then my homies in the neighborhood would freestyle when we would play basketball
at first i just beat-boxed, then i started to spit rhymes when i had the gall
that’s when i got the call age 14 my very first cellular phone
three 6, outkast, nas, mobb deep, snoop, and wu tang would fill it, then you could just tell i was gone
wu-tang would rap about c-ke, but also how dope his rhymes would k!ll it when he gets the beat
oh! that’s easy, i can rap about how my rhymes are better than other rappers. the rest of it’s history

you are me, i am you, nothing can replace you
no payment nor money ever can erase you
you’re my soul therapy, wealth cannot deface you
you’re my love, to other women i cannot remain true
