english lyrics

intro
never heard a track like this before
i’m miss o’hare
teaching welsh to your mam your nan whoever
at the end of the track you’ll know all the mutations
but first here’s one of my students

daffy
shwmae, daffy is my name
come with me for some fun and games
learning welsh with miss o’hare
the aspirate, nasal and soft mutations, yeah

verse 1
cheers daffy i guess you’ve heard of the good news?
miss o’hare, is teaching the mutations
the soft one has a lot of rules don’t they?
but what are the letters that mutate again?

p turns into b
t turns into d
c turns into g
b turns into f
d turns into dd
g disappears
ll turns into l
rh turns into r
don’t forget about the m to f

but when do they turn?
there are loads of triggers you need to learn
negative verbs, ‘yn’ + adjective
pr*nouns, ‘dy’, ‘ei’, ‘i’w’, which are masculine
‘y’ + feminine nouns and forget that it follows prepositions:
am, ar, at, gan, dros, drwy, wrth dan, heb, i , o hyd, and with gyda that’s the soft mutation done!

chorus
heard of the soft mutation
heard of aspirate too
heard of the nasal mutation
welsh; it ain’t for fools x2

verse 2
here’s the next mutation it’s about your nose
because all the sound comes through your nose
forget about ‘ll’, ‘m’ , and ‘rh’ they don’t turn
only the first 6 letters from the soft one

‘mh’, ‘nh’, ‘ngh’, ‘m’, ‘n’, ‘ng’ x2
but when do we use ‘em?

‘yn’ + name of place and the ‘yn’ can also change
to ‘ym’, ‘yng’ and then years they change it don’t forget
after the pr*noun ‘fy’ that’s the nasal done
here’s the aspirate one with letters; three

verse 3
p turns into – ph
t turns into i – th
c turns into i – ch
now, what triggers these letters?

‘a’, ‘â’, ‘ni’, ‘na’
‘ei’, ‘i’w’ which is feminine and ‘tra’
‘tua’, numbers 3 and 6
and negative abbreviated verbs

my tune, never heard one like before
but learn the mutations and don’t be a bore
now you should know all of the mutations gurl
and i bet it’s got you feeling on top of the world

chorus
heard of the soft mutation
heard of aspirate too
heard of the nasal mutation
welsh; it ain’t for fools x2

outro
defo didn’t talk about the one with the ‘h’
and there’s loads more to the soft one
couldn’t fit it in
well then
miss o’hare
remember the name and remember the mutations
