thank you, dakota - koyal lyrics
this is: “thank you dakota”
it was cold that evening and the clock struck 10
our pilgrimage to the cabin was ready to begin
the white slopes kept us occupied for most of the day
now, we were tired and hungry, with our destination more than an hour away
we split into two parties, and drove through the snow
with not a plan for food: no cooking, no dine in, or to*go…
though the steep, snowy roads were ominous and eerie
our journey began pleasant, with all passengers cheery
and then – like a flash! our cell service… disappeared
no access to food or the others – this is just what we feared…
the clock struck 11, our stomachs ached and growled
we were confined in the countryside in a snowstorm shroud
at last, after ages, we received one service bar!
we began the search immediately – but the restaurants… were how far??
fast food was extremely scarce in rural tennessee
all the shops close early too, in the small economy
the few stores that were open would close before we arrived
our hunger and our panic compounded – would we make it out alive?
our hopes had run out. what were we to do..?
until – exclaimed from the backseat, “taco bell! drive*thru! open. till. 2!”
we expeditiously raced in a manic elation
mountain city, tennessee was our angelic destination!
the clock struck 12 as we entered the town
the first street light we saw in hours – but was there food around?
for what two hours had felt like an icy, dark h*ll
had ended as soon as we saw the shimmering… shining… (live más) taco bell!
we cried out for joy as we rounded the drive thru window
“thank you for choosing taco bell” * “you’re welcome!” i had to let him know
(page turn)
in seconds, a multitude of items were bought:
quesadillas, tacos, wraps – it was a total onslaught
after the frenzy of orders, we pulled up to pay
to this man in the window we had so much to say
we shared our plight and our quest to this one spot:
“we thank you, sir, for your service, we thank you… a lot.”
surely he thought we were on crack, but what does it matter?
he delivered our food and our sauce, and plenty of the latter
we gathered our feast, and before i left i asked:
“what’s your name?”
he responded pleasantly, “dakota.”
and instantly in our heart was a flame!
dakota, dakota, the nourisher of men!
taco bell provider and wonderful friend!
he did for us that night what no other restaurant could do
so dearest dakota: we thank you
