war on drugs - kingrx lyrics
[intro]
ladies and gentlemen
i would like to summarize for you
the meeting that i have just had with the bipartisan leaders
which began at eight o’clock and was completed two hours later
i began the meeting by making this statement
which i think needs to be made to the nation:
“america’s “public enemy #1” in the united states
is drug abuse”
[hook 1]
i wake up every mornin’ to a pain i’ve been ignorin’
i’m runnin’ out of warnings and i can’t take the day off (can’t take the day off)
there’s a pill for every ill
popped a couple, to chill, and i really think it paid off (i really do)
at first i felt relief
that was way beyond belief thinkin’ “maybe this is too strong” (hmm)
addiction had me scared
the journal said it’s rare, i wonder what could go wrong?
[verse 1]
at the epicenter of an epidemic
fueled by faulty academics
corporate greed and lack of ethics
it’s quite poetic
can’t afford the bills, outta pills
lacin’ up with fentanyl until eventually they’re k!lled
can’t ignore the lack of room inside the morgues
rent a freezer truck to keep the bodies off the floor
and oxy tabs get lazy when they give you your reward
‘fore you know, you start to note it’s not as potent as before
i’m a prophet of the truth
know that pharmacists ain’t profitin’ from death among the youth
we ain’t startin’ these addictions with prescriptions through the roof
that description isn’t true it’s just a few who are uncouth (check your sources!)
time to save a whole profession gotta grind and pay attention
make connections, learn the lessons
look the wicked in the eyes and maybe ask a couple questions
like “why the drugs you make today k!ll more than smith and wessons?”
[bridge]
this, this is crack cocaine
it could easily have been heroin or pcp
it’s as innocent*looking as candy
but it’s turning our cities into battle zones
and it’s murdering our children
let there be no mistake
this stuff is poison
[verse 2]
and as a future pharmacist
i know i’ll face some fire
so i’m watching out for arsonists
i k!ll the flames with kindness
i’m a servant to the people
and if we learn our history we can write some better sequels
once upon a time i read some vows and took an oath
on the day that i was cloaked in my shiny white coat
to alleviate your pain to lessen all your suffering
to never be dishonest and uphold the sacred covenants
to keep on addin’ mileage on my endless quest for knowledge
hold myself accountable for decades after college
work with the physician, dietician, and the nurse
we can start movin’ ahead i’m sick of staying in reverse (skrrt)
ignorance is bliss i wish this pain was never known
and if you’ve been afflicted know that you are not alone
this is for my brother laying pr*ne beneath the stones
and all the broken homes where the ghosts freely roam
[hook 2]
cause every night i’m crying
from this pain that’s on my mind
cause i know i could’ve tried
to keep you closer to my side (so naive)
mama can’t find rest
baba been too stressed and
youngins asking why you left (oh how we grieve)
one day we’ll sit beneath the trees
let the breeze caress our feet
wash our sins away with ease, yes please
i hope you found your peace
try to catch up on some sleep
pray the lord your soul to keep
[outro]
it’s back*to*school time for america’s children
and while drug and alcohol abuse cuts across all generations
it is especially damaging to the young people
on whom our future depends
so tonight
from our family to yours
from our home to yours
thank you for joining us
