white picket fence - garrett johnson lyrics

[verse 1]
let me tell you the tale of the one -sset i want
my own studio filled with musical gimbos and parts
in the comfort of my home, barely big enough to flaunt
not a mcmansion that gets me viewed as a c-nt
i’ll never become the kind of guy to go around and taunt
anybody less fortunate than me, that shit is botched
i’d rather be castrated by a stick of lacrosse
i’m not about the see the dentist, so i ain’t gonna’ floss
i want the kind of house with a stream and moss
a patio to stand at the sunset and watch
then retreat to the studio and have that moment caught
on a tape, beat, or words i jot
and not exit until i’ve mastered every single part
keep refining till’ i tingle every time it starts
i know i’ll achieve the dream one day when i reach the charts
it’s just a matter of time before i find those who appreciate my art

[chorus]
the generic life, a family, kids, with a loving wife
a house with a fence, picket, white
never would i ever want to leave their side
add a pen, pad, and keyboard it’d be the perfect life
the generic life, a family, kids, with a loving wife
a house with a fence, picket, white
never would i ever want to leave their side
add a pen, pad, and keyboard it’d be the perfect life

[verse 2]
listen up everybody i have something to preach
i’m not in the music industry for fame and feats
i’m not starting a company to become a big wig leach
bottom line i’m doing it for p-ssion and to self teach
i love music, and writing, and want to learn what’s hidden under the consumers seat
don’t expect success, fame, or recognition, those are extra treats
i’m prepared to do the artists life broke stugglin’ for heat
fishin’ through dumpsters for thrown out frosted mini wheats
lately i’ve been wishin’ for an answer to a question deep and neat
how come people end up workin’ jobs that make them cold as sleet
were told our whole lives to follow our dreams, not repeat
the actions of our ancestors who lived unfulfilling lives to make some green
that was spent on what’s now valueless antiques
but yet the cycle continues, secured in concrete
i refuse to follow the path of the regretted life elites
you’ll find me making music until i finally d-i-e

[chorus]
the generic life, a family, kids, with a loving wife
a house with a fence, picket, white
never would i ever want to leave their side
add a pen, pad, and keyboard it’d be the perfect life
the generic life, a family, kids, with a loving wife
a house with a fence, picket, white
never would i ever want to leave their side
add a pen, pad, and keyboard it’d be the perfect life

[verse 3]
one of my biggest motivators is to affect somebody with my words
if i could make one person different with my nouns to verbs
just a singular stranger it would change my world
knowing i stirred up someones emotions, and aren’t just a babbling worm
that keeps rambling on about one or some other term
sometime i get to feeling as useless as failing nerds
about to be deceased like when clorox is sprayed on germs
with as much profit as a bankrupt law firm
but if i made an impact i’d be the point one percent
not even life changing, talkin’ just a small dent
there’s such a satisfaction in knowing you had an affect
that made someone stop and accept their defect
h-ll even if the words simply made you acquire a little respect
it would make me feel like the words finally out of darkness crept
but up until that day i’ll sit back a tad upset
that the only time i relax is directly when i slept

[chorus]
the generic life, a family, kids, with a loving wife
a house with a fence, picket, white
never would i ever want to leave their side
add a pen, pad, and keyboard it’d be the perfect life
the generic life, a family, kids, with a loving wife
a house with a fence, picket, white
never would i ever want to leave their side
add a pen, pad, and keyboard it’d be the perfect life

[verse 4]
pretty much to sum it up i just want to love life
but right now i feel sliced, cut, jabbed, stabbed, and impaled with knives
but there’s a few things in this world that would make me grieve
if i lost her, writing, or music, all to me are necessities
and of course family, even if we shop at dollar tree
all the things above mean the world to me
even if sometimes they need to back off and let me be
there’s no doubt they make it easier for me to breathe

[outro]
“so you keep mentioning her a lot” alex
“yeah, i think about her a lot” garrett
“well who is she?” alex
“she’s just c” garrett
