seas of change - galahad lyrics
i. storms are a comin’
“under the innocent laughter, beneath the internal tensions, behind the diplomatic courtesies, a network of compact alliances linked the parts together in misfortune”
“while we relax with someone close to us, logic [???] was moving toward [???]”
ii. lords, ladies and gentlemen
“my lords, ladies and gentlemen, i respectfully request that you be upstanding…”
“for i give you total confusion served up with a healthy smattering of understated incredulity”
“topped off with a heady dose of utter bemus-m-nt”
“thus, if you would be so kind as to raise your gl-sses to an uncertain and challenging future…”
“…and now some news just in, reports indicate that antipathy and extreme hostility are heading towards levels not sen in this country for many years, the situation could become critical within a matter of days. the government, although we are not quite sure who the government is, have urged calm and restraint…. yeah, right!”
iii. the great unknown
well it seems that there be interesting times ahead
another journey into the great unknown
batten down the hatches boys and girls
in readiness for the storm ahead
ready for more seismic shifts
some of which may be off the scale
so many seeds of change are coming
blowing in on the cold winds of change
bring it on.. bring it on… bring it on…
iv. sea of uncertainty
and now we’re sailing on a choppy sea of uncertainty
the wind is getting up and the general direction is quite unclear
some are rejoicing and some are in tears, some full of fear
the press are having a field ay as everyone becomes an expert… and has their say
and as time fades and calms the furore
we’re all still the citizens of hope and glory
whether red, yellow, green, orange, purple or tory!
half of us are shocked and stunned and half of us feel cheated and conned
suddenly some are backing away, denying what they really did say!
his master plan having backfired the pm has so gracefully retired
whilst some of the opposition are smelling blood and waiting to pounce
and as time fades and calms the furore
we’re all still the citizens of hope and glory
will this be the start or the end of the story?
how will this play out and be judged by our history?
“…and now some further news just in: it appears that hundreds of members of the opposition are throwing their weight behind a leadership challenge., effectively a ‘coup’, in response to, what they believe, was a rather lackl-stre and non-committal approach by their leader in relation to the european question…”
v. up in smoke
it’s all very un-english up in the smoke, oops it seems the politics is broke
all the leavers have left and the remainers are in a tiz…
what on earth is going on in the hallowed corridors of westminster?
we’ve never seen anything quite like this before
a m-ssive melting pot of public p-ssion boiling over
into so much antipathy and open hostility
so much for tolerance, understanding and free speech
all the while the powers that be are tearing themselves apart
all in all not so smart as it seems that those who have the reins are making it up as they go along
improvising new tunes which don’t quite scan…
mandarins are flapping under their banners and flags
‘consensus’ is a dirty word as no-one can agree
to what is or what should never be…
certain members are now showing themselves
to be not quite what they hoped they’d be perceived to be
vi. a sense of revolution
a sense of revolution is forming in the air
the wall of death is lowered in parliament square
the breeze of change is blowing harder now
the proles have woken up, but for how long?
vii. dust
as the dust settles it seems the fly avoided the windshield
although a few political careers lie splattered on the green
a clearer picture emerges
no economic meltdown
market armageddon appears to have been averted… for now…
so take that all you merchants of doom
quick, scurry back into your darkened rooms
the dust appears settled
there are twisters to be avoided
although for some it’s much too late, they’ve sealed their own fate
cast into the wilderness
they are lost in their own contradictions
it remains to be seen if they claw their way back again
so take that all you smug satisfieds
scurry back to your secrets and lies
viii. ’tis but a dream
surely i’ll wake up soon. tis but a dream i hope
but alas i fear i’m fully awake and i
cannot believe what is happening to the country i love…
but sometimes don’t recoginse at all…
then there are some who say
let’s keep voting until we get our way
what a true beacon of democracy we really are
changing the rules as we go. moving the goalposts…
how did it come to this?
let’s get on… let’s get on… what is done is done… or is it?
polarisation of the m-sses across the cl-sses
it seemed party politics just for a moment was irrelevant, inconsequential
perhaps a small glimmer of light, from out of the quagmire
of so much political confusion, delusion and deceit
ix. as time fades
and as time fades and calms the furore
we’ll all still be citizens of our faded hope and glory
what will become of our revered land of opportunity?
now it seems we are entering a new age of uncertainty
x. mare’s nest
it’s all a bit of mare’s nest
n-body knows what to do for the best
and those who say they do are probably making it up to
just like we’re all making up to
danger, danger all around is danger
danger, danger everywhere is danger
danger, danger all around is danger
trusting, trusting, how can we be trusting?
trusting, trusting, how can we be trusting?
trusted, trusted, who can be trusted?
can anyone be trusted?
faces, faces, layer on layer of faces
faces, faces, faces behind faces
multiple faces
faces all around me
danger, danger everywhere is danger
trusting, trusting, how can we be trusting?
trusted, trusted, who can be trusted?
faces, faces, layer on layer of faces
faces, faces, faces behind faces
faces, faces, multiple faces
xi. the greater unknown
well it seems that there be interesting times ahead
another journey into the great unknown
batten down the hatches boys and girls
in readiness for the storm ahead
ready for more seismic shifts
some of which may be off the scale
so many seeds of change are a coming
blowing in on the cold winds of change
faces, faces
bring it on… bring it on… bring it on…
xii. storms are a comin’ (reprise)
