g-eazy, a white rapper with a cheesy name, looking for easy fame. false. those are some of his first words in his mixtape the outsider. now, he is about to reach the pinnacle after various years of hard work and dedication to his craft. from being an opener to artists such as lil wayne and drake to headlining his own tour and selling out constantly and organically. “this guys’ on, man…” the words of drake in the beginning seconds of his self-t-tled song these things happen music video. g-eazy has finally broke the barrier into the mainstream and is taking over the industry with his james dean st–ze and it’s only a matter of time before girls all over the world melt for him. with his first official album being sold in stores released june 23rd, g-eazy is hoping to have this be an endless summer
g starts off the album reminiscing about being broke hoping one day to be rich from doing what he loves to do which is creating music. all g-eazy fans alike understand that this has been a long time coming for him to finally reach the stardom he deserves. yet, g only sees the surface scratched of what potential his brand and music have the capability to become
then comes far alone which exemplifies g-eazy’s roots and is where he found his influences such as legends mac dre and e-40. the latter who actually dropped a verse onto the official remix, a huge boost for an aspiring indie artist from the bay area. “always in the lab, only hoping that my job, never would be based around mops now i’m on,” g is consistently working on mastering the art of music hoping that his job wouldn’t be based on cleaning nor sitting in a cubicle. one should always aspire to dream bigger than themselves because what good will a job such as those do for you, simply maintain you for a time. but it will never satisfy you nor make you happy such as living to your highest potential would. “from the bart train to a tour bus,” all around america and the uk. when i say that g is the best new rap artist currently just know i mean it. the music video which he acts as an anchorman giving the news to the entire world. the scenes remind me a lot of the truman show, starring jim carrey whether that was intentional or not, i am not sure. g’s ego definitely is presented in this song and he knows he’s next up and there’s not much you can say to deny such a fact

my personal favorite song on the album because it exemplifies what life truly is especially as an artist/entrepreneur one must choose to sacrifice things in order to create future benefit. in a generation of instant gratification most people don’t want to allow the time for things to manifest themselves. patience is key

there is always an opportunity cost of every single decision one makes in life. a decision can cause the other alternative you chose to miss out on to change. especially, people who you thought you knew or were once so close to suddenly become the person they aren’t or never thought they were. “people change, everything’s in constant motion,” which in a quantum physics standpoint is entirely true because although one might be standing still our molecules are consistently moving and changing. everything is in constant change and the only constant is change. one must allow change to self-emulate, it cannot be resisted. g’s conscious asks himself, “is it worth it?” in which he starts to become insecure of his possible decision to pursue a rap career rather than a “secure” job that could have kept many people that he lost to still be in his life then he snaps back into the reality. to be complacent with where you are in life is a waste. you should continuously strive to challenge oneself and strive to become a better you. i, as a entrepreneur of my own company (creative-ive) at age 21, have firsthand understood the cost of losing some of the most important people in my life for the sake of pursuing my dream. but, i don’t regret it because without me putting the time in i would not be writing this for you all. i would not have creative-ive. i would have not graduated with my aa degree and on the verge to a university. continuously striving to work hard to make sure i’mma be the man when i die. the song ends in a similar fashion to that of chance the rapper’s everything’s good on his mixtape acid rap (which i wrote a review on) with a parent speaking over the phone about being proud of what their sons have achieved thus far
g-eazy’s almost famous produced by christoph anderson is about the internal struggle of uncertainty that being famous entails. it is difficult to understand or predict the longevity one can create once they have reached that point and as an artist you must not get comfortable. you must continue to stay humble and release quality content. his team is strong with the likes of blizzy aka the freshest drummer alive who enhances performances to the next level. g has a long ways to go till he becomes truly famous but there certainly isn’t anything stopping his brand from becoming a household name
lotta that features a$ap ferg, a huge acquisition on the basis of a$ap mobs established fan base and danny seth’s influence in the uk. this song is certainly a banger and will be played a lotta times at parties throughout the world
downtown love probably the best overall song on the album in all aspects. hugely inspired by kanye west’s flashing lights, g-eazy loosely tells the story edie sedgwick’s lifestyle as well as her relationship with bob dylan. “a beautiful, outgoing, alcoholic, socialite,” is how he describes her. where he once saw beauty, has come down to seeing her as nothing but pathetic with the lifestyle she decided on choosing. falsely thinking that this so-called love could have lasted forever. she is never able to be happy because she reaches out to material things, drinking, others, and drugs to fill certain voids of happiness. girl’s nowadays must realize that happiness comes from oneself, never from another or use of chemical enhancement to escape loneliness. ”see you’re in love with material, and even more in love with attention, walking through life so eager for affection, and never really was a connection, nah.” g-eazy started falling for a girl who was simply in love with possessions or tangible items. what he mistook as real was simply the girls’ need for affection which at times could be a turnoff for guys because of their eagerly displayed neediness. she desperately has to be the center of attention among others at parties and gatherings from all people not just g. the misconceptions of love are often times confused with the need of desire and deliberately pursuing recognition. he then realized this girl was never connected with him simply for the sake of loneliness, status, and the materialism -ssociated with being with someone who has money
“fell in love with the fast life but started it slow … making poor choices, was a fast lifestyle that no one helped her to steer.”
most people never want to admit they are intrigued by the fast life and once in it are latched onto it for good or until something drastic happens (but, these things happen). she began to delicately -ssociate herself with people who were in it thinking she had the mental capacity to resist the temptations that the fast life presents, yet she was wrong. she begins to make poor decisions and to lose balance of her life till she finally couldn’t steer it any longer. the downfall of this lifestyle is the metaphorical crash one takes when driving impaired to the realities of what life should be. the fast life is a dangerous route to take and sure as h-ll could be a blast while in it but so many lose themselves even more than they once thought they had. g felt as though he could have helped guide her in the proper direction yet she decided to take another road
which leads me to complete, the struggle of having an amazing girl by your side to support you and your dreams in ways no one else could/can. the feeling of having a lover to be there for you when you fall is unlike anything because they understand you more than anyone else, know what is to be said in order for you to rise again. “and i know you always stay down for the cause, you love me even for the flaws, but don’t do this sh-t for applause, soon as i get right then i’mma take care of you.” someone who doesn’t do it for the potential fame being alongside you, who doesn’t do it for the money one day you might receive, who does it for the simple fact they love every aspect about you with no need of recognition is something magical and extremely rare to find especially on the rise to success. the song contains sample differences by ginuwine, “my whole life has changed since you came in… glad you came into my life.” no relationship is perfect and has their fair share of ups and downs, especially as a person of ambition, priorities are crucial for success and at times the lover must exuberate patience and be able to understand the lifestyle it takes. a girlfriend who has been there since day one supporting your dreams despite failures is something one must always appreciate. to have someone like that that loves you is one of the ultimate forms of inspiration and should never be taken for granted. if someone inspires you to reach levels unprecedented, never should you leave that person because sometimes you need someone to push you in your career, beliefs, values, and education. to feed off of each other and grow alongside each other. that’s what a relationship should be. no matter what society or your social groups tell you, one good person who loves you, holds you down and remains faithful in your life is worth more than “20 hoe’s.” similar line used by kanye in bound 2, “one good girl is worth a thousand b-tches.” quality of a relationship always surp-sses that of quant-ty
until that good girl decides let’s get lost… (whose hook is sung beautifully by talented and mesmerizing vocalist that is devon baldwin) in which that girl becomes infatuated with g’s persona completely transforming even destroying her life for the basis of a one night stand or “temporary love.” she is tied up with a boyfriend who she no longer loves or has interest in and g continues to convince this vulnerable girl that it is a great idea to leave him for him yet he only wants s-x. so she does leave her boyfriend for another…
g is then reversed into the role of being that guy who is left or betrayed by a girl he used to think was amazing and pure. shoot me down is the ant-thesis of the song complete which adds complexity to the albums concept. “you gone miss me when i’m gone … i’ll make it on just watch, you’ll be so regretful,” is what he tells this girl that left him for whether it was for another or for the sake of differences in life paths. at this point, g has established that all they once had is gone with no option of redeeming what they once had because of lost trust. g never thought this girl would shoot her down the way she did. he believed she was different, more special than other girls only for it to turn out that she’s just like the rest of them. yet, the creeping thought of considering to bring it about anew with the “what if’s and maybes” makes him bitter, so he chooses to ignore those feelings because becoming bitter restricts growth as a person
the been on music video is simply g-eazy smoking for the length of the song and has racked up more than 3 million views. he’s that cool. “criticism’s worth some more than compliments” is an obvious yet true statement because that is what one needs to reevaluate oneself to improve in any aspect

with creative-ive, it was an idea that came to mind about a year ago and with that seed in my mind, i nourished it without ever letting the fatigue or thought of failure slow me down. now, i’ve made it to where i am today, but barely scratching the surface of what is to come. g-eazy criticizes other rappers for their lack of sk!lls claiming they are still “playing wiffle ball” while he’s already playing in the major leagues. he’s claiming that he’s already been on that black on black with the hair sl1ck back that up-and-coming rappers are trying to imitate. continuing to hone his craft to “make a cl-ssic song, last as long as raw denim” and everyone else just recycles his successes
remember you is by far the best hook on the entire album with the graceful singing of blackbear. g-eazy is used to that easy (no pun intended) girl that gives it the first night yet this girl was different. different is good. a girl with respect of herself to make others “work” for it or till she feels it is appropriate. “it’s not everyday someone comes and leaves an impression,” which has g questioning what to text her or if he even should. this makes her memorable unlike any girl he’s come across. he doesn’t want to make any promises to her and makes sure she realizes that his lifestyle of constant traveling does not allow him to settle down with her. but outside of his tour bus window he shall be looking and thinking about her, and will never forget about her which cements the idea that this girl was something special to him. one of a kind in the ocean of women g-eazy seems to get
tumblr girls are cl-ssified as girls with skinny waists, drug habits, act as if they are the “baddest” and love status. g-eazy has no problem having s-x with these girls because it’s included in the package of being a successful rapper. i can’t not talk about christoph anderson who without him there would be no these things happen album. christoph produced 9 of 16 songs including must be twice a remake of g-eazy’s last album (must be nice). his outro is beautifully written giving an absolute depiction of what internal struggles are presented in the realm of groupies. he admits never really taking value in anything the girl is speaking because she stands for nothing important but the basis of s-x. “never knew her name, they’re looking all the same to me, they only chase the fame, there’s no one left to blame but me.” in midst of living the tour life, there is thousands of people one sees/meets that the faces/names i would -ssume start to blend into the same reality. groupies are consistently and persistently willing to do whatever it takes to get a taste of fame and always hope the artist will allow them. christoph admits he’s the one to blame for their perceptions in a way because he allows it to manifest rather than deny their pursuits or educate them to have respect for themselves
finally, to just believe the final song on the album. g-eazy claimed this to be the song that means the most to him because it self reflects the constant fear of pursuing such colossal dreams. the cloud of doubt was intense yet he continued to strive and break through it
“i’d rather chase a dream, than be content to sit behind a desk.”
is something that i’ve consistently lived by in order to make something of myself and what drives me is doing it “for my folks” who have sacrificed so much for me to allow me to grow up in a country of opportunity. one must pursue his/her dreams on that fact and make sure their parents never have to work another day of their lives because you are doing exactly what you love and are p-ssionate about. it took g-eazy over 10 years to get where he is… success doesn’t happen overnight. it is loads of work with release of constantly amazing content and the m-sses will organically spread it to others. that is why i am being patient. my vision will someday to arise and cultivate just like g-eazy’s did. to put on for san diego like he puts on for the bay area like macklemore for seattle, or kanye west for chicago
huge props on this phenomenal album, it was awesome meeting g-eazy before all the fame at porters pub. i can’t wait to see him on his rise to stardom. these things happen. recently, winning spotify’s “spotlight” artist, being on the cover of the art section on the new york times, making his television debut on nbc’s late night with seth meyers and performing at the first ever mtvu fandom awards in san diego… all this while staying true to the art and staying independent. all i’m saying is it must be nice
