built to fade's "to dust" review - bigsto reviews lyrics

kno x anna wise x zoe wick x dane ferguson= built to fade.

this group kind of came out of nowhere, kno (of cunninlynguists) announced the group on the cl facebook page a while ago. i do know anna wise from her work as a vocalist with cunninlynguists and her group sonnymoon. zoe wick and dane ferguson though were two artist that i didn’t know much about. enter “to dust”. the group released a gang of singles and a couple of videos all within what seems like a short period of time. if you’re reading this review on november the 12th you can still cop the record for free til midnight. let me explain why you should do this

kno has more than proven that he deserves to be in the discussion of one of the best producers of all-time and he continues to plead his case on “to dust”. the t-tle track sets the bar extremely high from the jump. kno’s patented dark soundscapes populate your ears with an acoustic guitar and violin playing in order to put you in the proper mindset for this record. i believe this was a great way to start the album and prepare you for everything this piece of music will have to offer

dane ferguson is up to bat first on the song “angel”. ferguson’s voice fits perfectly with kno’s production that again contains some acoustic guitar, but also has some piano this time around. the subject of the majority of the album is love and ferguson speaks on a love lost. this was a person that he strongly depended on and that love chose to leave. whether this is ferguson or the former love’s fault is left kind of a mystery. ferguson’s vocals are on point, so smooth and you can feel sadness in his voice and that just adds to the pathos of song

anna wise and kno team up on “the invisible man” and the talents of nemo achida are called upon to drop a rap verse also. fans of the cunninlynguists should enjoy this beat (actually the production on this album to be honest) it harkens somewhat of the sound on oneirology. both wise and achida speak on seeing through a facade that someone puts up (see what they did there? they can see through the invisible man….get it, it’s a pun…..never mind) “dark night” has zoe wick on the lead vocals, for the most part i felt the album flowed from one track to another cohesively, but i wasn’t so sure about this joint. that’s not to say it’s a bad song, quite the opposite, i love how intense the beat is, wick comes in with intensity, not that she’s belting out vocals, but the way she sings over the soundscape constructed is almost addictive

i did my best to give shine to everyone in this review because everyone did fantastic job on this album. kno obviously prepared a fantastic batch of beats to accompany three talented vocalists that all vocally bring something a bit different to the album. at the same time the album is cohesive and seems to run smoothly from track one to ten. my only beef is that the album is so short, it might feel this way because i enjoyed it so much….actually i lied this album clocks in around 30 mins. after you listen to this you’ll be fiending for more like a freaking drug addiction. real talk though this album is a beautiful piece of art and music and if it hasn’t hit midnight you can cop the album for free now. for a 30min project this album easily flies up my list to being a potential album of the year…..it’s that good. do yourself a favor and cop this album, you will not regret it
