battles of lexington and concord - anthony lyrics

Loading...

april 1775 two battles took place in a colony of m-ssachusetts that would change the world forever

you’ve probably heard of a man named paul revere
made the midnight ride as independence neared
he was one of many to spread the word
on his way to concord his voice was heard

“the redcoats are coming! the redcoats are coming!”
wake up your man cause they’re up to something

their goal was to capture colonial arms
in the town of concord and surrounding farms
but before they reached their destination
in lexington there were minutemen waiting

ready to fight, they had 70 men
couldn’t stop the british they were moving in

a superior army in sk!ll and size
a show of force you better recognize
the colonists knew they didn’t stand a chance
so they stepped aside and let the army advance

they were leaving the field when someone, somewhere
fired a shot through the morning air

the violence came, and quickly p-ssed
but it left eight colonists dead in the gr-ss
the british pushed on to complete their plan
but they didn’t find guns in concord, man

as they headed back they were surprised to find
a group of ragtag soldiers ready to ride

by the rude bridge, that arched the flood
here once the embattled farmers stood
their flag to april’s breeze unfurled
and fired the shot heard ‘round the world
by the rude bridge, the drama occured
when shots popped off the town of concord
300 minutemen stopped the path
and were ready to har-ss some lobsterbacks

this time, the script was flipped
redcoats were defensive and ready to dip

the retreat to boston was a big ordeal
sharpshooters took aim from the woods and fields
the british army lost 70 men, 200 more hurt, missing, or
wounded

the news spread fast and people spoke
there’s no going back on this path we chose

so get your musket and pack it full
cause the path to war is inevitable
for six long years they fought to be
the united states, independent and free
